Spotlight Mobile
Components of the Spotlight software are installed on the mobile devices running Windows Mobile or CE operating systems. The primary functions implemented by the Spotlight Mobile software are:
- The core asset tracking and inventory management workflows
- The logic needed to ensure reliable synchronization of data between the mobile device and the central Spotlight server in a disconnected or partially connected network environment.
The mobile workflows provided out of the box and which are available on either of the mobile devices include:
- Zone Inventory
- Zone Audit
- Display asset information
- Find asset
- Asset/tag association and commissioning
- Asset/tad disassociation and decommissioning
- Location tag commissioning
Other client specific mobile workflows may be added as needed. All of these workflows utilize the common data synchronization services provided by the Spotlight Mobile Application Framework.
The Spotlight Mobile software components installed on mobile devices or handheld readers are shown in the figure below.

Once connected, the server and mobile devices exchange the information needed to allow the device operate in a stand-alone disconnected mode. Information received from the server is stored in a local SQL Server database installed on the mobile device. The device uses this database to capture and buffer tag read and other business event information until the connection is reestablished with the central Spotlight server at which time the databases are again synchronized.
